As the title suggests I was able to finish my script. I'm not sure if I'm going to post it, but I'll describe the process nevertheless. I wrote it in a more stereotypical, yet effective style where I ended each line with a rhyme with minimal dialog between the characters. The narrator is designed to describe the events in flower language and the emotions set forth. I also described the main threat very minimally since I want the audience to still be left in the dark about what exactly this "beast" is.
In horror I discovered that the best monsters are ones you can't read their emotions. If you give it a creepy smile or badass frown then it's not scary since you can predict what their intents are at that point. It also shows how inhumane they are since mammals have a lot of facial muscles used for communication so to go against that sends negative signals in our brains. I also left the intent of this creature not fully explained. I want it up to the viewer to make their own conclusions and have personalized interpretations of the beast and the overall film.
I also kept the gay romance and sexual themes very...vague. I was going to write a sexual scene that could be read as sex, but I didn't want it to come off as too crude. Funny enough, even when keeping it subtle, one of my friends read it and asked if "the milk is a metaphor for cum." Like....I didn't intend to write it that way, but no interpretation is wrong.
I have no idea if I'm going to shorten it since I feel like making it any shorter might get rid of plot related detail however, I really don't want to animate out of my 5 minute limit. I'll just record the dialog then cut or talk to my teacher and see what exactly can be done.
In the meantime, I started doing some background design starting with the cabin. It's nice to see that Pinterest is full of vintage house design from as early as the 1910s. I was able to create the basic design for the outside, but I'm still working on the color pallet. I'll attach the image bellow.
This week I plan on making more concept art relating to the set and the characters as well as an overall color map to be used later on in production. My major goal is create the design for the "beast" which will be followed up by it's very own post.
